In an outstanding example of web-focused publishing, this video shows how the Bangor Daily News in Maine uses a system they built in which stories start in Google Docs, are brought into WordPress for publishing on their site, and are finally imported into InDesign for print publication.
Oh, and did I mention that they have open sourced everything they’ve done? Rock on.
This is gnarly! Very cool! Looks to be taking Mark Jaquith’s idea of “That’s when I know WordPress is doing its job: when people aren’t even aware they’re using it because they’re so busy using it!” to another level.
Having spent a lot of time recently trying to make WP friendlier for users on the admin side, this is a good idea and seems to be well thought out and executed too.
