Whats New in WordPress 2.3.1?

So you maybe thinking is it worth updating to WordPress 2.3.1 or should I leave it at 2.3?

Well there was been several changes to the system and one security fix, which is always nice to know that the WordPress developers are taking care of your blog.

WordPress 2.3.1
So theres some things that might make you decide to update to WordPress 2.3.1.

  • Manifest file for Windows Live Writer so as to enable tagging support.
  • Improvements to the email address extraction in wp-mail.php.
  • An improvement to the link manager to ensure that only user with the manage_links capability can access the page.
  • A security fix to ensure that edit-post-rows.php cannot be directly loaded to prevent XSS attacks when register_globals is enabled.
  • Groupings in the SQL queries used during upgrade to remove errors on duplicate entries in the old post2cat and link2cat tables.
  • The Sender is set on emails to help on hosts that limit which email addresses can send.
  • Performance improvements for the Taxonomy intersection queries.
  • Exclusion of the post previews from canonicalisation.
  • Improvements to the handling of the main query to ensure it is saved when calling wp().
  • Fix the in-line uploader so that send to editor works with a blank title.
  • Removal of the case-sensitivity on host names of wp_safe_redirect().

So is it worth updating? Well theres a security fix and some good changes, so yes I would say go and update your WordPress powered site. I’m sure we will be updating to it pretty soon as well!

    I have also noticed a huge speed improvement while submitting new posts. WordPress 2.3 used to take about 30 seconds to submit a new post. Now it only takes about 10 seconds.

  2. Hmmm not sure on that one. I haven’t noticed slow posting?
