WordPress Theme Review: UrbanGrunge 1.0

The first thing I thought of when I looked UrbandGrunge was “Cool!”

UrbanGrunge 1.0 WordPress Theme

Can you blame me?

Validation 3/5

I have to hold myself back for a moment. The shining glory of this theme is the artwork, but that has to wait a moment.

A couple of parsing errors on the CSS and some standard warnings (color related, as usual) resulted in −2 points. Needs to be looked over.

Look & Feel 3/5

It’s frustrating to have to take points off in this particular area, of all places! The art is amazing, and I’m only hoping it’s custom work. I hope it isn’t a stock photo since most of that stuff is no good for templates…

If you are running with any Subpages, this theme doesn’t support them in the menu. The quickest fix is to make your wp_list_pages look like this:

<?php wp_list_pages('title_li=&depth=1'); ?>

That should take care of it.

Oh, and don’t have long post titles. It doesn’t look great at all. Sometimes it’s hard to read the words over the images.

Theme Completeness 4/5

No search bar anywhere on the screen. −1

(The search function still works though. Just add a search bar.)

Editablity 5/5

This theme seems to be very similar in style to the code of the last ThemeVibes theme I reviewed. That’s a good thing. Consistency is good.

I also love to see the “Edit” links on the site when logged in as admin. It’s surprising how many themes don’t include this. Boggles my mind. Again, nice that UrbanGrunge has it.

This theme isn’t perfect. Artsy doesn’t mean a perfect theme. No, this is an imperfect theme which looks real good.

I mean, it looks really good.
