Silent Water‘s review turned out well. But there are still things it can improve on.

Silent Water WordPress Theme

  • Validation: 4/5
  • Look and Feel: 4/5
  • Theme Completeness: 4/5
  • Editability: 5/5
  • Total: 17/20

Validation 4/5

There isn’t anything serious in the validation. But then again, it isn’t perfect code either.

Thirty or so warnings in the CSS, but that doesn’t mean the end of the world. But there were two errors in the XHTML. Best as I could tell the problems were strange unordered list issues. Worth looking into.

Look & Feel 4/5

This theme has bad support for lots of menu items. I would suggest having three or four at most, otherwise it will break.

The highlights on the sidebar are a cool effect, but it makes the words impossible to read when it’s rolled over.

I do have to say that the theme is very clean. It’s very appealing.

Theme Completeness 4/5

Almost everything looks okay. But there is no support for 404 pages. Not good.

If you use this theme, be sure to add in a template file for it. Kind of a pain, but a good thing to do.

Editablity 5/5

Everything checks out here. It’s even ready for widgets, which is great news.

Closing Comments (17/20)

I can’t say I’m crazy about the look of this theme at all, but there are worse themes than this I suppose. There is work to do, but nothing (aside from the 404 page) that could cause too much damage.
