WordPress.com introduces “Top Authors” stats, coming to plugin soon

Specifically for multi-author blogs, WordPress.com has rolled out a new panel for their stats page called Top Authors that lists the blog’s authors in order of how many visits each of their posts has generated. Joen Asmussen, Design Wrangler at Automattic, explains it (emphasis his):

Here’s how it works: all the posts that were visited during the day are counted up, divided by who wrote them. The author with the most visits across all his or her posts of the day, gets the top spot. Interestingly, the top spot is not about who wrote the most posts, it’s about which author wrote the posts that got the most visits.

Granted, this will only currently work on WordPress.com hosted blogs. The feature will be added to the stats plugin “in the not-so-distant future,” so we’ll keep you updated on that.

What about WPCandy, you ask? Who is top author here? Spoiler alert: it’s me. I’m also the top author on my super secret cute pets in sweaters blog. Tell no one.
