Envato, the company behind the ThemeForest and CodeCanyon marketplaces, have announced that rates for all exclusive authors will jump from 40%-70% to 50%-70% with a $75,000 progression scale. For WordPress theme and plugin developers who contribute to these marketplaces, this means increased earnings for newcomers as well as a shorter and more achievable path to a 70% commission rate.

Under the current system, authors have to accumulate $300,000 in sales to achieve a 70% commission. The new system will lower the required amount to just $75,000 in sales.

The rate for non-exclusive authors will remain at 25%.

The new rate system takes effect at midnight (Melbourne AEST time) on September 30th. For the full rates table, visit the official Envato announcement.
