Pingdom, a company that offers website and server monitoring services, has released a status blog WordPress Plugin. A status blog is a central location where users of a website or online service can go for information regarding accessibility to the site or service. Popular examples include the Twitter status blog and the Google Apps status dashboard.

Pingdom’s Plugin connects with an existing Pingdom account to display up or down statuses for monitored sites and a detailed view of uptime and response time history. Users of the Plugin also have the ability to make the status of any site either public or private and are given full control over the Plugin’s styling.

The Plugin is now available in the WordPress Plugin Directory and requires a self-hosted WordPress installation. The Pingdom monitoring package required to use the Plugin is free for those who are only monitoring one site. Paid Pingdom accounts start at $9.95/month.
