CollabPress 1.0 released, road map shows future

CollabPress is a plugin that adds project management capabilities to WordPress—think creating projects and assigning tasks. It is now available in its final 1.0 version. This release includes a 100% rebuilt codebase, now uses custom post types, and updates the plugin’s security.

The plugin provides project management functionality from the WordPress Dashboard itself. Features include:

  • Unlimited projects, task lists, tasks, and comments
  • Email notifications for new tasks and comments
  • Task due dates with a calendar view
  • Activity log tracking all activity

For those using WordPress Multisite, CollabPress is also multisite compatible. According to the CollabPress roadmap, future versions will include front-end shortcode support, task priority settings, and BuddyPress integration.

It can be downloaded for free from the WordPress Plugin Directory, but the plugin sports a site at CollabPress.org as well.

Brad Williams is the primary developer behind CollabPress, through his WordPress development shop WebDevStudios. Williams was also one of the authors behind Professional WordPress. You can follow him on Twitter at @williamsba.

Do you use a project management system? Is it web-based or installed on your machine? Would you consider using a project management system within WordPress itself? And just a programming note: we’ll soon be updating (happily!) our guide to using WordPress for project management.
