bbPress RC 4 is ready to be pressed by your hands

John James Jacoby has been a busy guy today. After the BuddyPress beta announcement earlier he published the announcement that bbPress RC 4 is now available. Why RC 4 already? According to Jacoby the last few release candidates have been put out without mention due to a high amount of feedback on the plugin.

bbPress now has tighter integration with Multisite, BuddyPress and Akismet. There’s also an updated green admin color scheme added as an option alongside the standard gray and blue admin color schemes.

You can grab the bbPress plugin from the directory. Are you using bbPress yet? How do you like the newly added green color scheme?

  1. I’m kind of wondering what ever happened to John James Jacoby mention back in August 2010 (related post here) that WordPress core developers would take some time off working on the WordPress core itself and work on tightly integrating bbPress and BuddyPress. His exact words were:

For the first time in over 8 years, the core development team is not working on the next version of WordPress, but rather on an initiative that’s been dubbed “” is a very appropriately named project that is focused on building and polishing the surrounding elements of WordPress rather than on WordPress itself.

Unless I’m mistaken, it seems like that never came fruition.

  2. Chris:
A lot happened behind the scenes. Various refinements of the site occurred, Aleut quietly. I’ve never seen a postmortem on it, but I know that Otto, in particular, ended up doing a lot of .Org work.

  3. Heh, I never would have noticed that green theme. Looks good. I mean, looks terrible on my site, which is mostly dark reds and khaki colours! But in general it looks good, if green is your thing!
