Thematic is the popular free WordPress theme framework created by Ian Stewart, now an Automattic Theme Wrangler. Devin Price of WordPress Theming has updated rebuilt his Thematic Options Panel to be more flexible and have more options for developers to include with their themes. He is also very open about the main influence behind the reboot:
The functionality is based heavily on the WooThemes options panel and incorporates a huge amount of their code. If you’ve ever worked with Canvas, or other WooThemes, the easy ajax interface should be familiar. All the options are defined in
theme-options.phpthrough an options array.
Thematic Options Panel is itself a child theme of Thematic, though the files relevant to the options panel itself can now easily be removed and included in any other theme—including non-Thematic themes.
Those interested can grab the files from GitHub. A video demo of the options files being transferred into a non-Thematic theme is embedded after the jump as well.
Do you use options panels in the themes you develop? Do you add them to the themes you use yourself, or only to those you are creating for clients or others?
