McDonald teases websites for musicians at

First tweeted late last night, Luke McDonald is now teasing his next project called, a site that will provide audio WordPress themes for musicians. It hasn’t launched quite yet, but you can drop him your email address if you’d like to be notified of it when it’s ready.

McDonald has created and sold themes on the ThemeGarden marketplace and on Jason Schuller’s Press75 in the past.

A screenshot of the site, for posterity’s sake, is saved just below the jump.

AudioTheme joins a growing list of niche theme designers and developers out there, catering themes toward a specific target market rather than trying to hit everyone with a handful of themes. Is this the future of theme shops?

  1. Just got soundcheck today. Going to be implementing it on a site tomorrow. I hope that he also develops some themes for venues as well cuz there’s not many options out there that fit the bill.

Can’t wait to see what he might do with integrating music services like Soundcloud.

  2. Ryan, thanks for taking the time to write this up. Greatly appreciated!

As for what to expect, Soundcheck is just a small piece of the puzzle and the first public experiment. I have a healthy amount of ideas, with a few in the works. Dealing with audio media management and browser compatibility is the biggest challenge. Simplicity in management, functionality in compatibility. Chip, I look forward to your thoughts and experience with Soundcheck. Constructive criticism is welcomed.

I hope to have other WordPress theme authors provide themes as well. With a few already already committed, I’m eager to see what they create! The end goal, is to take the ease and power of WordPress and include the functionality needed and used by many bands, musicians, or people just looking to showcase audio in general. With friends in bands, I figured starting this project would be like killing two birds with one stone so to speak.

  3. I think I heard recently that WordPress powers 14% of all websites now ?
As the userbase grows there is only going to be more room for these types of niche theme companies & niche hosted services using WordPress.

  4. I thought I would follow up and let everyone know AudioTheme has officially launched (April 2013). It took a bit longer than expected though the outcome is far better than initially planned. Better late than never 🙂

A free version of our framework (plugin) is available, too; test it out and let us know what you think!
