WPCandy: Our First Month

A few days ago (November 1st) was the one month anniversary of WPCandy! I’m not going to lie, it’s been an amazing and exciting first month. Personally, I’ve met a few cool people along the way (HellYeahDude, Adii, etc.) which has also been incredible. I think that another part of blogging, should be building up a good network of people who blog about the same stuff you do. Why? It’s important. That’s a whole other story though…

Keep reading to see what we’ve accomplished in only one month!

In a little over one month, from October 1st to today, WPCandy has grown more than I ever could have wished for. Before we launched, we obviously started out with zip, zero, nada! The site was a ghost town. Today we’re proud to say we’ve had:

  • 32 posts
  • 126 spam comments (hehe)
  • 15,885 total visitors*
  • 4,980 unique visitors*
  • 1 guest author (Cameron “dRiZ” Drysdale)
  • Up to 65 RSS subscribers

It may not sound a lot, but if you ask me, that’s not too shabby for only one month. Infact, I would say we’re kickin’ butt! I’m writing this post to simply thank all of you WPCandy visitors! We truly love you all and we hope you keep coming back!

*Stats as of 3:55 pm EST on Sunday, November 4th.

Very pleasant stats, Michael. I’m sure many would be happy with such an impact in their first month.

Damn, that’s not too shabby for your first month!

I started a site recently about Venus flytraps (click my name to visit it) and am aiming for 1000 uniques for my first month, but I assume Venus flytrap websites are far less competitive than WordPress sites are so you are doing pretty awesome to almost crack the 5000 mark!

Good luck for month two!

Michael - Those are excellent stats for only a single month’s work! Keep up the good work. I really like the simplicity and cleanliness of your theme. Your content is also fun and easy to read yet still very informative. I think you will see some huge growth in your website traffic if you keep posting useful content like this.

Michael - Here are a few things that you can do to improve upon your already wonderful website.

- Create a human readable privacy policy.
- Create a machine readable (p3p) privacy policy.
- Ensure your site is COPPA compliant.
- Add an ICRA content label.
- Review the standard HTML accessibility guidelines.
(i.e. add “alt” tags to your images, etc…).
- Add a human readable sitemap.
- Add a machine readable sitemap.
(you may already have this)

I am currently writing a set of articles entitled the “Wordpress Webmaster Checklist” that describe in detail these topics as well as other website development topics. You can take a look at these articles by following the link below.

Good luck and keep up the great work!

Thanks for the info Keith.

We have a sitemap we just don’t have it linked to any pages so its not viewable by the public unless you type in the address yourself.

As for the alt tags, yes we should probably do this, and i suspect if i talk to the other mike we will start doing this.

Thanks for the link, I’ll take a read when i get some free time from writing posts and learning some php haha ;)
