About Knapsack

Knapsacks are very simple plugins that do one simple thing: they install other plugins.Fill a Knapsack with plugins you’d like to take with you, and when you install and activate your Knapsack it will install and activate those plugins for you.

It’s as simple as that. Feel free to then deactivate your Knapsack and hold onto it. it’s one of the simplest ways to quickly install a batch of plugins.

Pretty soon there will be a handy introductory post that I can link up here. Until then, just imagine that it’s here.

Solving the Knapsack problem

Via Wikipedia:

The knapsack problem or rucksack problem is a problem in combinatorial optimization: Given a set of items, each with a weight and a value, determine the count of each item to include in a collection so that the total weight is less than or equal to a given limit and the total value is as large as possible.

WordPress users face the same sort of problem when it comes to choosing plugins. Create, use, and share your Knapsacks to help yourself and others solve the problem of what plugin to download and use.

Behind the scenes

Knapsack was largely inspired by Automattic’s Jetpack plugin and a handful of conversations at WordCamps. The meaty, functional, awesome part of Knapsack relies on TGM Plugin Activation.
