New in WPCandy Labs: WordPress plugin and theme header creators

3

You might have noticed a new addition to the primary blog navigation above: Labs. WPCandy Labs is just a section of the site where I can tuck away fun little ideas and projects and test them out. Initially the WPCandy Labs page was empty, but I added it up in the navigation regardless as a reminder that I need to spend time on new ideas and fill that section of the site up.

I’m happy to point you to two new, simple additions to the Labs today. First is the WordPress Theme CSS Header Creator, and second is the WordPress Plugin Header Creator.

Those names just roll right off the tongue, don’t they?

Meet the slightly realigned WPCandy design

10

Posting about Sucuri Security’s redesign yesterday reminded me that I haven’t done a proper post talking about some of the recent updates to the WPCandy site design. If you normally read only via RSS, now’s a good time to pop over to the site proper and check out the (kind of new) look.

There are a number of updates to the design that you might have noticed already. I’ll run through my favorites in this post.

Frederick Townes will join the WP Late Night crew for tonight’s podcast

0

Frederick Townes, creator of the W3 Total Cache plugin and Senior Technical Advisor at Mashable, will be joining the WP Late Night crew for tonight’s podcast. We’ll be recording live on the WPCandy Stream at 8:00 PM EDT, and every one of you is invited to join us.

We’ll be broadcasting from the Stream at 8:00 PM EDT, and of course we’ll have the WPCandy chat room open (#wpcandy on freenode) throughout the show. We’ll be talking about all the big WordPress news of the last week — you don’t want to miss tonight’s show! If there are any topics you’d like to see discussed, or questions for Mr. Townes even, drop them in the comments below.

Note: We do keep a broadcast calendar, with dates of live broadcasts and scheduled guests. Refer to that any time you’re wondering when the next time we’ll be going live with a new podcast.

Support quality WordPress discussion by sponsoring WPCandy podcasts

4

Just a quick announcement to let you know that any interested WordPress businesses or services (or products that would be relevant to the WordPress community, of course) are welcome to get in touch regarding podcast sponsorships. Sponsorship opportunities are now available for the three major WPCandy podcasts: WP Late Night, The WPCandy Podcast, and The Weekly Theme Show.

There’s more information on available sponsorships over on the revamped advertisement page, where you can also get in touch regarding Pressed Ads advertisements.

Don’t miss out on this week’s live podcast recordings

0

If you’re around your computer working in the next couple of days, flip over to the WPCandy Stream and tune in for the live recordings of this week’s episodes of The Weekly Theme Show and WP Late Night podcasts. There are normally a couple dozen folks in the chatroom during live recordings, with discussion that (dare I say) rivals the show’s discussion.

The live recordings are tonight and tomorrow night. Details:

  • (Tonight) April 17, 8:00pm EDT: The Weekly Theme Show #4 with Ryan Imel, Justin Jones and Nicholas Weaver
  • April 18, 8:00pm EDT: WP Late Night #5 with Dre Armeda, Brad Williams and Ryan Imel

Join us then (or any time of day, really) on the WPCandy Stream and in the #wpcandy IRC room.

Ryan will speak at the Grand Rapids meetup this week

4

I’m excited to say that I will be taking a bit of a drive to speak at the WordPress meetup in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Thursday of this week. Fourteen WordPress enthusiasts are expected to attend, if their Meetup.com page can be trusted.

We’ll be chatting about mine (and attendee’s) favorite WordPress plugins, so hopefully everyone will come away with a handful of new ones to try. I expect everyone will have a great time, so if you’re in the Grand Rapids area consider attending!

If you run any sort of WordPress event (meetup or otherwise) in the Midwest, let me know so that I can add one of your events to my calendar and swing by sometime.

And just out of curiosity: has anyone here ever attended a WordPress meetup that wasn’t held in their own city?
