Photoblogging with WordPress Round-Up

WordPress as we know it is a great platform to build different sort of things, including our current subject: photoblogs. There are plenty useful resources scattered around the web, and here we’re gathering them together into a single package. Do let us know in the comments if we’re missing out something here!

Themes

First stop, themes.

14 Wordpress Themes for Photo Blogs
Quite possibly the most updated photoblog themes list as of the date of this post. It features both free and commercial WordPress themes.

10 Free Photoblog Themes for WordPress
A list of good-looking, completely free photoblogging themes.

PhotoBlog Themes for Wordpress
Features 8 themes. A little outdated compared the previous posts, but it does show some themes not mentioned above.

Top Ten Best Photoblog Themes and Templates
While this post lists themes for various different CMS, some of those are WordPress themes. Also, all of the themes do look good, so check it out for more inspiration.

Monotone theme
First introduced as a WordPress.com theme, Monotone is a unique photoblog theme by Automattic that can transform its own color scheme based on the colors on the current photo (here’s a demo).

Themes tagged with ‘photoblogging’ at WordPress Theme Directory
As you can see there’s a little shortage of photoblogging themes there. Might be a good idea to contribute one of your own, here.

Plugins

Sometimes using a new, photoblogging-specific theme might not be an option. In this situation, you might want to consider using plugins instead. Also, these plugins might also provide more detailed functionality than a theme could hope for (EXIF output, for instance).

Yet Another Photoblog Plugin
“Convert your WordPress 2.5+ installation into a full featured photoblog in virtually no time.” If the average rating on that page is any indication, this is quite possibly the most popular WordPress photoblog plugin so far.

PhotoQ
A strong contender to YAP, PhotoQ offers some unique functionalities (such as image watermarking and automatic posting) worth checking for.

PhotoBlog
Another photoblogging alternative. It works a little differently from the other plugins above: “The post aren’t modified, only changes the position of the first image, puting[sic] it to the post’s top.” By the sound of it, it seems to be the easiest to set-up, with the trade-off of a more limited functionality.

Flickr Photo Album
“This Flickr plugin for WordPress will allow you to pull in your Flickr photosets and display them as albums on your WordPress site.” Good if you plan on using your collection on Flickr instead.

WordPress Flickr Manager

This one makes it easy for you to browse your Flickr collection and insert it into a post. As an added bonus, you can use it to upload photos to your Flickr account as well.

Picasa LightBox
For those using Picasa, this is the plugin for you.

Very similar to the Flickr Photo Album plugin is Fotobook, which pulls from a user’s Facebook photos.

Great resource list.

One of my favorite plugins when I was running my photoblog was “Yet Another Photoblog Plugin”.

Looked great and worked very well indeed.

another positive about my site unlike all the other sites.. i will pay you out daily.. so you earn 5 bucks in the first 5 minutes you work on my site.. request a payout and i will pay you out right then.. i guarantee no other sites like mine will pay out daily multiple times..
