Happy WordPress Day!

As most of you know, today is our self-declared Unofficial International WordPress Day, a day to celebrate the existence of WordPress and to thank Automattic and the rest of the WordPress community for all of their hard work and dedication.

While many of you are posting about why you love WordPress on your blogs, we here at WPCandy are also raising a toast to the WordPress team and community. Here are our thoughts on WordPress. Read more…

Unofficial International WordPress Day Update

Hey everyone - just a reminder that tomorrow is Unofficial International WordPress Day, one day out of the year when we celebrate WordPress and everything that’s been built around it. We’ve also got an awesome contest going on tomorrow with 20 great giveaways that include premium themes, plugins, and more. To make it easier for you to participate, we’ve changed the rules a bit.

Before, we were asking you to post a blog entry about why you love WordPress, thanking Automattic, etc. We decided that was a little much to ask, so we’ve made it super easy for you to win one of our prizes. Simply leave a comment on the official page expressing your love for WordPress, how it’s helped your business, thanking Automattic, etc. and you’ll be entered into the contest. It’s that easy! We’ve got all these awesome prizes, and we want to make sure everyone has an easy and fair chance to enter.

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to the Unofficial International WordPress Day page and leave your comment now!

The second thing is pertaining to Automattic and the entire WordPress community. As you all know, WordPress is free and open-source, and there are many people behind the scenes working their asses off simply because they love WordPress. With that said, we’re asking you to please join us in donating to WordPress. These folks really deserve it. It doesn’t have to be a huge amount - in fact, any amount will do - but not only will it help them out, it’ll also show how much we appreciate all they’ve done.

Thanks!

-The WPCandy Team

Unofficial International WordPress Day

Unofficial International WordPress Day. That can only mean one thing, right? One day - Tuesday, July 1 - out of the whole year to celebrate the existence of WordPress. But, like the title says, this isn’t official or anything. Your boys over here at WPCandy just wanted to have a little fun within the community.

What’s This All About?

We want to dedicate a day to just thank the awesome folks over at Automattic for putting together some really awesome projects, such as WordPress, bbPress, etc. I bet they work their asses off and I think they deserve a little bit of appreciation (not that they don’t get any, but there’s never too much appreciation). WPForSale - Exposure For WordPress Developers

WPForSale is a new site that is focused on providing WordPress users with premium products and resources, and helping WordPress designers and developers sell their work.

Many WordPress users are not aware of many of the valuable products out there. That’s where WPForSale comes in. They showcase the latest and greatest premium products, so users have only one-stop place to check.

WPForSale was built by and currently managed by Bernadot Studios, based in La Crosse, WI, USA. They’re passionate about WordPress and use it as their premier platform, “because the flexibility, community and ease of WordPress is unmatched”.

Scott, the site manager, says they’ve “personally found the premium themes and plugins very useful in our buisness, as it saves tons of time getting a project started and eases management for our clients”.

WPForSale also provides valuable WordPress tips and tricks to help users with their sites. Their site is new, but Scott says there’s much more to come and to expect some new (top secret) additions to the site.

WordPress Weekly Episode 20

Last Friday, like every usual Friday night, I tuned into WordPress Weekly, with host Jeff Chandler and a few guys from the WordPress community.

For the first 35 minutes of the show, Jeff interviewed Patrick O’ Keefe, book author and owner of the online network iFroggy. Patrick talked about managing forums and online communities, and issues that coincide. It was pretty sweet to get the insight by someone with so much experience in the field.

After that interview, Jeff interviewed yours truly, Dan Philibin. Dan was asked questions about our new design and different aspects of it. It was a fairly sudden interview with no previous preparation, but Dan did pretty well, if you ask me.

Next, Jeff talked about the Show125 plugin (via a post by HackWordPress.com) and the All-In-SEO plugin not being supported anymore for future versions (which is now being supported by hallsofmontezuma at WordPress.org). Jeff also brings on Richard Paul who shared his opinions on the All-In-SEO plugin and how it should be implemented into WordPress.

Anyways, I don’t want to spoil all the fun, so check out the episode for more WordPress news. And If you’ve never tuned into WordPress Weekly, there’s one usually every Friday night at 10pm, so make sure to stop on by!

An Update From Small Potato

The other day when I was checking my e-mail, I found a nice little surprise in my inbox from Tung Do, aka Small Potato, the previous owner of WPDesigner.com. He said he had just got back from Thailand, which was a fun and an eye opening experience.

He also mentioned he was disappointed with how WPDesigner turned out, and although the Themes Club is Pawel’s responsibility, if WPDesigner remains inactive and Pawel does nothing with the site until January 2009, he’ll personally refund the current paying members (only to the customers in his PayPal records). So if you’re worried about your $5, fear not.

What do you guys think is going to happen? Do you think Pawel will come back from the grave and bring WPDesigner back to life?

Assign Attributes To The WP_List_Pages Tag

Our WPCandy v1 WordPress Theme uses a nifty, little script called Scrollovers. A while back when I was developing the theme, I ran into a bit of a problem with the script and WordPress. I wanted to add some bam to the nav with Scrollovers and also use the wp_list_pages tag in order to keep the dynamic nature of the navigation. But see, with Scrollovers, the anchor for a link requires a class and type value of “scrollovers”, which isn’t possible to accomplish with WordPress. As a result, I moved on by simply hardcoding the links in the navigation, as below, and provided the appropriate documentation for users.
