Sharpfolio² WordPress Theme

Remember WebRevolutionary? Matt Lenz, the owner, is really bringing back WebRevolutionary with a bang.

In the last post about the redesign, I mentioned one of the two WordPress themes WebRevolutionary is famous for, Sharpfolio. Well speak of the devil, because Matt has just released Sharpfolio², a redesign of the first Sharpfolio theme, which is compatible with WordPress 2.5.

“Sharpfolio is a WordPress theme designed to enable Web Designers, Graphic Designers, Photographers, Motion Designers, Artists or any creative professional to showcase their work in a simple, clean, beautiful portfolio. Sharpfolio aims to focus primarily on your work, because after all, this is what’s most important”, says Matt in his post.

If you’re looking for a sweet WordPress theme for your portfolio, make sure to try out Sharpfolio². It won’t disappoint.

WordPress 2.5 Released!

As announced today by Matt Mullenweg at WordCamp Dallas, Automattic has officially released WordPress 2.5, along with their new site design!

What’s new in WordPress 2.5? The biggest change you’ll see is the new administration theme, designed by HappyCog. The new theme definitely streamlines and simplifies the WordPress interface a lot. It also includes a customizable dashboard, built-in galleries (hallelujah!!), built-in Gravatars, and even faster loading speeds.

This build of WordPress is looking more fantastic than ever! Let’s give a huge thanks to the developers and designers at WordPress for a great release!

WordPress 2.5 is available for download over at Wordpress.org. And if you’re a Wordpress.com user, fear not, you will receive an update to 2.5 in the next week.

As for WPCandy, we will be upgrading to 2.5 soon, as well as making sure our WPCandy v1 WordPress Theme is compatible. Stay tuned for more news on 2.5.

Welcome Pawel Ciszewski!

Finally! Pawel Ciszewski, the new owner of WPDesigner.com, has introduced himself. In his brief introductory post, Pawel touches on a few questions people have been asking.

Who are you and what are your plans with WPDesigner?

“My names Pawel Ciszewski, the names Polish but I’ve was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI and currently reside in Miami Beach, FL.

I’m an online entrepreneur who actively pursues many differenet internet ventures and actively acquire sites that I feel are valuable resources to the Internet and will be profitable long term.”

What are your plans for WPDesigner?

“I will try to keep the blog posts and blog designs as good as they where by SP but that will be a challenge and nobody will replace SP.

Expanding the themes club will be my main objective. I myself won’t be actively posting or building themes, not by expertise and leave that to those who are.”

What do you guys think of Pawel? Has he made a good first impression? Do you think he will really go on to fulfilling Small Potato’s legacy? I hope so!

Oh and don’t be shy. Go introduce yourself to Pawel.

We’re Having Server Issues!

Hey everyone, if you’ve been to WPCandy within the last week or two, you might have noticed it has been down. We’re very very sorry. Ever since we switched from WPDesigner Hosting to MediaTemple, our site has been going down at least once each day. I thought MediaTemple was supposed to be awesome! I guess not.

Anyways, if you are experiencing any problems with accessing WPCandy, please hold tight, we’re trying to get it sorted out with MediaTemple (we send a support ticket to them each time our site is down, complaining to them). If you’re hosted with MediaTemple, have you also been having problems like us?

WebRevolutionary.com Relaunched

Matt Lenz, a web and graphic designer, has just relaunched WebRevolutionary, with a new design. WebRevolutionary hasn’t been very active since the end of last year, so I’m really glad to see WebRevolutionary getting back into things, seeing as it was one of my favorite blogs.

WebRevolutionary is a blog mostly focused on design, technology, and the web. WebRevolutionary is probably most known for the ColdBlue and Sharpfolio WordPress themes released in mid 2007. Most importantly, WebRevolutionary is powered by WordPress!

Now onto the design. It’s definitely something different from the last theme WR was running on. Even though it had Web 2.0 written all over it, it was still gorgeous. The new design is more minimalistic with only a few images and a couple of colors. Of course, I love it. It’s perfect, except for one thing. I wish there was a Categories section in the sidebar for easier navigation.

I’m really excited to see where Matt will take WR in the next few months. Maybe another awesome WordPress theme? Maybe even a Premium WordPress theme? We’ll have to wait and see.

WordCamp Coming To The UK?

Now for all you fellow British WordPress users out there, this came as a keen interest to me. It has been suggested by Tony Scott, that a UK version of the famous WordCamp was requested to be held right at the heart of the country.

The idea of the WordCamp has been floating around cyberspace for a while, but it is now just a case of whether people will attend, at what location, and is it possible for a sponsor to help with costs and fees. There is also a lot of talk about London being the location because it’s really easy to get to there. There are tons of trains to and from London during the day.

If you’re wondering what a WordCamp is, well it’s basically a large gathering of WordPress users and developers that meet in one location and talk about everything and anything WordPress.

WPDesigner.com Sold!

Small Potato has recently sold WPDesigner.com for $66k $65k. I’m not sure about you, but I could definitely think of a few things to do with $65k! SP has also introduced Pawel Ciszewski, the new owner of WPDesigner. Welcome Pawel!

Now that Pawel is running WPDesigner, I’m very excited to see what he’s going to do with it. Even though SP isn’t the owner of WPDesigner anymore, the $5 Themes Club will continue and he will be guest posting on WPDesigner when he can.

I will be getting in contact with Pawel soon to welcome him to the community, as well as introduce myself. I hope he’s friendly! If you would also like to welcome Pawel, leave a comment on WPDesigner.

WordPress Community News #2

There has been so much news in WordPress community lately, and I didn’t want to overload you guys by making a post for each, so I’m just going to do a big wrap-up. Wrap-ups are fun, right?

1. Fluency Admin Style Plugin

There’s been a lot of talk about the new WordPress 2.5 Dashboard design. Most people I know don’t like the change, but personally, I like it. It’s something new and refreshing from the previous WordPress Dashboard designs.

For those of you who don’t like the new Dashboard design, you can thank Dean Robinson for creating the Fluency Admin Style Plugin. I installed it the other day to test it out, and I must say, it’s not bad. And if you don’t like the Fluency Admin Style, consider making your own Admin Style plugin.

2. Probama WordPress Theme

I love this theme. It’s so organized and the design is pretty awesome for a free theme. It’s packed with tons of features, from a Control Panel, Dynamic subpage menus, and RSS integration with BarackObama.com.
